Hermann hauser II 1970

(ex. Celedonio Romero)

The 1970 Hermann Hauser II once owned by Celedonio Romero is an extraordinary example of twentieth-century classical guitar making. Crafted during the mature period of the Hauser workshop, it combines the precision and balance associated with the German school with the warmth and color prized in the Spanish tradition.

What makes this 1970 Hauser especially significant is its direct connection to the legendary Romero family. Originally built for Celedonio Romero, it was used in concert throughout his career as one of his favourite guitars for recording and live performaces, including a renowned private concert for Pope John Paul II at the Vatican. After Celedonio’s passing, the guitar remained within the Romero family under the care of his son, Angel Romero.

The guitar features a rare cedar top paired with Brazilian rosewood back and sides, producing a tone that is both refined and deeply expressive, clear and powerful. Despite its age and extensive artistic history, this 1970 Hauser remains in remarkably preserved condition, a rare quality for a concert guitar of this caliber and provenance.
