Fonzo Selection is a premium branch of Fonzo Guitar, founded in Bangkok, Thailand in 2020 by Bird Ekachai Jearakul—the winner of the 2014 Guitar Foundation of America (GFA) competition. After spending over 20 years in the guitar world—performing, collecting, and working closely with most of the finest guitars ever made—Ekachai wanted to create a space where guitar lovers could access the kind of world-class guitars that usually take years to find. That’s how Fonzo Selection came to life.
At Fonzo Selection, we have more than sufficient knowledges of the world class fine guitars, from their makers, background story, sound performance, conditions, till the global market position. We focus exclusively on top-tier, rare, and high-end classical guitars—the kind made by legendary luthiers and often with waiting lists of quite a number of years. We have strong relationships with many of these famous makers.
Our team is small but working globally. As a subsection of Fonzo Guitar, Fonzo Selection is created from passion, under less financial pressure, mainly persuits the collection of those dream guitars. Bird Ekachai Jearakul, the first classical guitarist from Thailand and in Asia to win the Guitar Foundation of America (GFA) Concert Artist Competition 2014, which is known as the most prestigious guitar competition in the world.
Ekachai Jearakul was born in 1987 in Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand. He started to train his first musical instrument on trumpet at the age of 10. When he was 13 years old, he heard the music piece named “Hungry Man Blues”, composed by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, arranged and played on classical guitar. He was inspired and decided to play classical guitar since then.
Ekachai continued his study in Classical Guitar Performance at the College of Music, Mahidol University, where he majored in classical guitar and was awarded scholarship for all his years there. After he graduated his bachelor's degree in Classical Guitar Performance with first class honor, he received a full scholarship to complete a master's degree in the Classical Guitar Performance at the University Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria.
Ekachai took part in his first international classical guitar competition in 2004. Between 2004 - 2014, he earned a lot of experience from his worldwide journeys and won more than 30 international guitar competition rewards. Finally, he picked up the first prize of Guitar Foundation of America (GFA) International Concert Artist Competition 2014. He is the first one from Asia to won this prize in GFA history. This reward brought him the honor to release his own classical guitar album with the world famous record label “Naxos” and went on hundreds of world tour concert later on, including giving recitals in the prestigious concert halls, such as Carnegie Hall in America. Besides that, he has performed as a soloist in various countries with world leading orchestras.
