A Magnificent Tribute to the Torres 1859 Ex. Miguel LLobet by Italian Luthier Lucio Antonio Carbone
We are proud to introduce the latest guitar in the Fonzo Selection collection: a meticulously made replica of the legendary Antonio de Torres 1859, ex. Miguel Llobet made by Italian luthier Lucio Antonio Carbone
Our original 1859 Torres, preserved in the Fonzo Guitar Museum, is one of the most historically significant and visually striking instruments in our collection. Built by Antonio de Torres in 1859, it features a cedar soundboard, Brazilian rosewood back and sides, traditional Spanish fan bracing, and its original Torres tuners. Its bold rosette and purfling, together with the distinctive mother-of-pearl inlay on the bridge, give the guitar an exceptionally elegant and unmistakable character. Associated historically with the great Spanish guitarist and composer Miguel Llobet, this remarkable instrument offers a rare and direct insight into the craftsmanship and vision of Antonio de Torres, the father of the modern classical guitar. Last year, we brought our original Torres 1859 to Lucio Antonio Carbone with one purpose: to provide a direct and uncompromised reference for a new interpretation of this extraordinary instrument.
The result is not simply a guitar inspired by Torres. It is a painstaking study of the original. Every aspect of the 1859 Torres has been carefully examined and reproduced, from its proportions and distinctive vintage appearance to the construction details hidden inside the guitar. Even the meaningful repair points carried out by Torres himself have been preserved as part of the replica's historical character.
In addition, it carries a sound with the unmistakable character associated with the finest traditional Spanish guitars, warm and resonant, yet remarkably clear and rich in harmonic color.
Antonio de Torres is often regarded as the father of the modern classical guitar. His work transformed the proportions, construction and acoustic possibilities of the instrument, establishing principles that continue to influence generations of makers today. To reproduce one of his guitars faithfully therefore requires more than copying measurements. It requires an understanding of why Torres built the guitar the way he did. The most important is, you need an extraordinary original Torres guitar beside you as a reference which is extreme difficult in nowadays. However, we make it. This new 1859 replica is the result of that process, an extraordinary piece of art inspired directly by one of the most important guitars in the history of the classical guitar.
