A Rare Masterpiece with Direct Provenance from the Fleta Workshop

Few names in the history of the classical guitar carry the same reverence as Ignacio Fleta. His instruments are celebrated for their orchestral depth, lyrical warmth, and extraordinary projection. These supreme qualities placed them in the hands of many of the world’s greatest concert artists.

Among the rarest examples to emerge from the legendary Barcelona workshop is this exceptional 1984 Ignacio Fleta guitar, originally built for the renowned guitarist Ángel Romero. It features the cedar top and Indian rosewood back & sides. Original finish and original tuner machines. What makes this guitar exceptionally important is not only its tonal character and provenance, but also the extraordinary dedication made by Ignacio Fleta to Romero. Very few perhaps only two guitars are known to exist with an additional label personalized dedicated to the guitarist by Fleta. This 1984 is one of these two, which making this guitar extraordinarily rare among surviving Fleta instruments.

During a recent visit to Barcelona, Fonzo Selection's founder - Ekachai Jearakul had the privilege of meeting directly with the Fleta family and bringing this remarkable instrument back to the workshop where it was originally created. In a deeply meaningful encounter, Gabriel Fleta generously shared his memories of the guitar, its construction, and its connection to Ángel Romero. Gabriel also told us that as reuqested by Angel Romero, he also added the 20th fret to the fingerboard to extend the playable range for modern repertoire and advanced performance techniques. The confirmation and certification received from the Fleta family further reinforce the historical significance and authenticity of this guitar.

In today’s market, truly important Fleta guitars are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain. Instruments with direct artist association, documented provenance, and confirmation from the Fleta workshop are rarer still. This 1984 Ignacio Fleta for Ángel Romero stands as both a world-class concert instrument and a significant collectible example of Spanish lutherie at its highest level. For collectors, concert artists, and serious connoisseurs of the classical guitar, opportunities like this appear only rarely.
